Distractions

Distractions come to take us off our focus. They divert us from our purpose and lead us down a path of total confusion, setback, and delay. Distractions can come in the form of anything: relationships, men or women, jobs, friendships, money, conversations, politics, social media, etc. It has no discrimination and can happen to anyone.

A distraction is caused by the lack of ability to pay attention or a lack of interest. Sometimes people use distractions as a means to take their minds off of what’s most important. For example, a student may become distracted and start doodling as a result of not paying attention in class. Or constantly checking your phone when you're at work could also be a distraction. Both may start off as something small but can cause problems in the long run. The student could miss an important part of the lecture for an upcoming test and the worker might get in trouble for paying more attention to the phone instead of actually working. Either way, the distractions can cause problems.

From a spiritual standpoint, a distraction forms to hinder your relationship and true purpose with God. The enemy uses distractions to block true deliverance, healing, or breakthrough. Since he cannot destroy you, he distracts you with something or someone. I’ve been in this scenario several times and pretty much fell for it every time too. Whether I was distracted by men, women, friendships, jobs, social media, whatever it seemed like I was always taking 10 steps forward and 100 steps backwards when I became distracted. In the end, I would always be back to square one (hurt, damaged, frustrated, annoyed). I got to the point where I felt like I was going through the same things with different people over and over and over again. I was in a cycle of distraction yet my relationship with God stagnant.

Satan is good at doing this and he knows what appeals to you. But you have to be two steps ahead of him at all times and pay attention to what’s going on around you. Remember that God is in control and that he has called you to have authority over every trick of the enemy. You have to first become aware of the distraction then execute a plan to get rid of it. It’s hard to let go of distractions once they’ve become a normal part of your daily routine but when you rid of them, you will begin to walk in your divine purpose. God is saying to you that you need to keep your eyes upon him. Continue to seek him and ignore all distractions.
